BOARD APPROVES NARRATIVE AND STRUCTURE FOR FIRST RETROSPECTIVE EXHIBITION

The Foundation Board met on July 13, 2025. The Board discussed and approved the proposed structure of a retrospective exhibition of Else Madsen’s work, including accompanying descriptive section narratives and selection of works for each section.

The exhibition proposal includes a total of 57 works divided into two parts. The first part consists of 30 works in five sections describing the evolution of Else’s works chronologically: Learning Years; Working Artist Years; Wartime Years; Recovery Years; Mature Years; and Later Years. The second part consists of 27 works divided into three sections, each focused on a particular theme of Else’s work: World Traveler; Bøtø; and Formal & Technical Exploration.

Preliminary selections of works for each section have been made, and when approved, the board will renew contact with the Museum of Danish America regarding an exhibition at their facility in Elkhorn, Iowa.
