BOARD CELEBRATES DISCOVERY OF 14 ELSE MADSEN MINIATURES

The Foundation Board met on April 12, 2026. Cid Galindo and Joe Arredondo reported on the recent wide-ranging telephone conversation with Adam Bierstedt, MoDA’s Curator of Danish American Culture. Adam confirmed that Else’s exhibition wasscheduled on the museum’s calendar for the latter half of 2027, and he will provide a memorandum of understanding summarizing the items discussed.

As MoDA is a cultural museum dedicated to the Danish immigrant experience in the United States, Adam expressed an interest in enhancing the exhibition of art works with artifacts such as photographs and letters that would complement Else’s travel experiences and expand the narrative to include Else’s descendants’ immigrant story. In a preliminary searching for such artifacts, 14 previously unknown miniature art works created by Else were discovered! These works will be photographed, numbered, and added the collection database.

The board also discussed the need to organize a publicity campaign to recognize the introduction to the art world of a newly discovered 20th century Danish female artist, and to promote MoDA’s role in this accomplishment. The foundation’s and MoDA’s resources will be leveraged to achieve this goal.
